A driver led law enforcement on a chase that reached more than 100 mph in the Ritzville area Tuesday night. Ritzville Police attempted to stop 22-year-old Darby Lynn Kurkowski. She was driving a Ford Crown Victoria. Kurkowski continued and sped up to more than 60 mph/96 kph through Ritzville, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Adams County deputies joined the chase as the driver entered the county on Bauer Road. Sheriff Deputies say Kurkowski drove through several fields before heading back into Ritzville at more than 100 mph/160 kph. During the pursuit Kurkowski ran several stop signs and drove through parking lots with “no regard for any other traffic or persons,” stated Adams County sheriff’s officials.
Spike strips were set up at Gun Club Road in order to stop the vehicle. Kurkowski was stopped before the spike strips and was taken into custody for felony eluding. A warrant for a blood sample was also served for suspicion of a DUI believed to be narcotics. The Washington State Patrol also assisted in the pursuit.
