US-2 Highway over White Pass reopened Monday morning at 10:00am after being closed overnight due to high avalanche danger. Stevens Pass remains closed and crews are expected to provide a reopening update Monday at 2 p.m.
Multiple highways over mountain passes in Washington closed Sunday evening due to heavy rain and increased avalanche danger, according to the Washington State Department of Public Transportation (WSDOT).
Highway closures
I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass closed to traffic at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb 21. Traffic will be stopped eastbound at milepost 34 near North Bend and westbound at milepost 70 near Easton, milepost 84 near Cle Elum, and milepost 106 near Ellensburg, WSDOT said. I-90 is expected to reopen Monday at noon.
US 2 over Stevens Pass also closed to traffic at 6 p.m. Sunday in both directions from milepost 58 at Scenic to milepost 64.5 at the Summit. Crews are expected to give an update on reopening plans Monday at 2 p.m.
SR 20 in the North Cascades closed in both directions at milepost 120 due to a small avalanche and the potential for more, WSDOT said. The closure is near Newhalem, and the east side closure point is at Early Winters at milepost 177. WSDOT is advising all travelers to avoid this route.
