One person is dead after a deputy involved shooting in the town of Mesa this morning.
Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported prowler call in the area of Sagehill and Hollingsworth Roads in Mesa at about 3 a.m. on Monday, Sheriff J.D. Raymond said in a press release.
The area is south of Othello, Washington in the town of Mesa, 27 miles north of the Tri-Cities.
When Franklin deputies arrived they attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle. Sheriff’s officials stated that the contact between deputies and the suspect vehicle resulted in the shooting of the driver. Franklin officials stated that one person has died and three deputies were transported to a local hospital in the tri-cities to be treated.
Raymond said details of the incident are “sketchy” as authorities continue to gather facts. He added that the three deputies are receiving treatment for minor injuries at an area hospital. None of the deputies involved have life threatening injuries.
Sage Hill Road South of Hwy 24 and Hendricks South of Highway 24 has been closed as authorities investigate the incident.
The sheriff’s office will not release more information until a press conference set for 1 p.m. on Monday.
