- Marlin, WA
A 71-year-old Odessa woman died late afternoon Tuesday when her vehicle was struck from behind by a semi during a dust storm in eastern Grant County near the town of Krupp/Marlin.
Kelly Korpinen was driving her 2020 Jeep Cherokee northbound on Road W-Northeast. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said that when Korpinen approached the brownout conditions of the dust storm about six miles north of the town of Ruff, Korpinen stopped her vehicle blocking the northbound lane. The Jeep was then struck from behind by a 1997 Peterbilt water truck driven by 27-year-old Randy Gross of Marlin.
Korpinen was pronounced dead at the scene. Korpinen’s body is in the care of Coroner Craig Morrison. Korpinen’s next-of-kin has been notified. Gross was not injured.
GCSO said that both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision. Alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the collision. WSP Commercial Vehicle Division assisted the Grant County Sheriff’s Office Motor Traffic Unit with the investigation. The investigation continues.
